The trees, the trees

I stand at the window of an old, dark building, looking out into the courtyard from
the first floor. It’s a cool, grey day.

Outside the trees and shrubs confirm that it’s late spring and that it’s time to grow.
They’re going about the division of cells and absorbing nutrients from the earth as
if there’s nothing to it. Turning their leaves to the sun.

We are connected and yet so far apart
